No you are not dreaming, this is really a cheesecake that is stuffed with the deliciousness of an apple pie. This dessert is not for the faint of heart. This is a delightfully heavy dessert BUT I do think it's worth every single calorie that it has. I do not even want to figure out a calorie count for this, it's THAT good.
RECIPE ADAPTED FROM FOOD.COM (#139399)
Ingredients:
2 cups graham cracker or gingersnap crumbs
6 T & 1/4 C melted butter
24 ounces cream cheese (3 bricks) softened
1 C white sugar
2 whole eggs
1 egg yolk
1/2 C heavy cream (whipping cream)
2 T & 1/2 C flour
1 tsp vanilla extract
3 apples, peeled and sliced
1 T & 1/2 C brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
Optional: 2 T caramel sauce
Directions:
Heat oven to 350.
Spray springform pan with cooking spray.
In a bowl mix graham crumbs with 6 T butter. Press into springform pan, covering bottm and about 1/2 inch up the sides to form the crust. Wrap the outside of the pan in foil and bake 10 minutes to set crust. Set aside.
While crust is cooking, beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs, egg yolk, cream, 2 T flour and vanilla until blended.
In another bowl, toss apples with 1T brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg until apples are coated.
Pour half the cream cheese mixture over crust.
Arrange apples over the cream cheese mixture. Try to overlap the apples the best you can.
Pour remaining cream cheese mixture over top of apples. Bake 40 minutes.
Prepare topping while cheesecake is in oven:
In a small bowl stir together 1/2 C flour, 1/2 C brown sugar, 1/4 C melted butter.
Drop mixture in globs over cheesecake.
Bake at 350 for another 30 minutes until top is golden brown and edges have begun to pull away from sides of pan. Cool on wire rack to room temperature.
Once at room temperature, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight to set.
Optional:
Before serving drizzle with caramel sauce

DeleteI really should go back to some of these older posts and make printable recipe page. When I first began blogging I didn't have things in a great user friendly format so I can see how you overlooked where the cream was added, but I have since learned and hope to neaten up these older ones soon.
