Fried Zucchini Blossoms & Tuesday Tastings Party
Growing a garden full of fresh veggies is such a rewarding summertime hobby. While I love eating fresh veggies every day, the thing I long for all winter long, finally becomes possible in these warm summer months. The ever so delicate zucchini blossom. You can serve them a number of different ways but the way I grew up on them was to lightly batter them and fry them. So delicious. Certainly not filling enough for a meal, but we make them mid day and snack on them through the afternoon.
If you don't grow a garden, you can find these during the summer months at farmer's markets and specialty grocers.
Nutritional info here:
Ingredients:
10-12 zucchini blossoms (flowers)
2 egg yolks
1 C very cold water
1 C flour (all purpose)
canola or vegetable oil (about an inch, amount depends on type of pan)
4-5 fresh basil leaves, sliced thinly
kosher salt
fresh ground pepper
Directions:
In a large bowl, beat the eggs, add cold water. Add flour and whisk together until a thick batter is formed. If too watery, add more flour, if too thick add more water etc. Season with salt and pepper to your liking. Stir in the basil leaves.
Heat oil over medium high heat.
Dip the cleaned zucchini flowers 2-3 at a time in the batter and fry about 3 minutes until golden and crispy. Remove to a paper towel lined plate and sprinkle with salt.
Okay so that is my recipe, how about you share your recipe with me now?
Here are the features from last weeks party. All of them were so delicious, I have once again pinned ALL the recipes that were shared.

My sister is growing zucchini, I will have to tell her she needs to try this.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, it's a must if you grow zucchini, summer squash and I have heard pumpkins but have yet to try the pumpkin blossoms! thanks for coming to the party!
DeleteI have always wanted to try this and I find that my plants get lots of blossoms not all ending in squash so this will solve that problem! They would be a nice appetizer for the Chicken & Peas I brought this week. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fine idea. Believe it or not, there are male and female blossoms which is why not all of the "fruit". Thanks again for coming by and sharing the chicken and peas!
DeleteI will be over for sure. Thanks again for coming by and the recipe looks great.
