Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes

This  is yet another recipe that I vaguely remember seeing on Rachel Ray's show and it seems to have popped up recently on Pinterest so I figured now is a good time to try it out.

I went by memory of seeing this on tv and I didn't really measure anything so all measurements are "eye balled" as Rachel says usually anyway.

Recipe below all pics:
brown the beef and cook with onion and pepper
then add steak sauce and beef broth, salt and pepper

Meanwhile, create a roux by melting butter, whisking in flour and
 adding milk

Reduce heat and add cheese and stir to create a lovely velvety cheese sauce

Ingredients:

1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
1 C beef broth
2-3 T A1 Steak Sauce
5 Sandwich Rolls
1 T butter
1 T milk
'1T flou
1 C shredded cheese (I used Provolone that I cut into small pieces because I couldn't find any shredded)

Recipe:
  • Brown ground beef in large skillet.  Drain fat if necessary and add beef back to skillet, add onion and pepper and cook until vegetables are beginning to soften (about 5 minutes).
  • Stir in the steak sauce and beef broth and season with salt and pepper.  Bring to a boil and then simmer about 5 minutes.
  • While meat is simmering, melt butter in small saucepan over medium heat.  Whisk in flour and cook 1 minute.  Whisk in the milk and let it come up to a bubble and cook about 2-3 minutes.  Reduce heat to low and add in cheese and season with black pepper.  Remove from heat when cheese is incorporated.
  • Depending on the type of sandwhich rolls you are using, you may want to take out some of the extra breading to create a "well" for the meat to sit in.  Otherwise place rolls (split in half) in oven 350 for 5 minutes to lightly toast.
  • Spoon meat mixture on bottom of roll and top with cheese sauce and then top with roll top.
I served mine with some homemade oven chips and it went perfect.
